Tarot Card "The High Priestess"

Symbolism:

The High Priestess sits on a throne between two pillars, the dark "B" pillar and the light "J" pillar. These pillars represent Boaz and Jachin from the Temple of Solomon and symbolize the balance of opposites, of darkness and light. It is worth noting that the two pillars are a commonly used symbol in Freemasonry. In her serene seated posture, her calm and confident gaze exemplify her role as a spiritual guide. In her function, the High Priestess transcends the boundaries of specific religions or beliefs. She wears a Christian cross on her chest, holds the Torah, a sacred scroll of the Jewish faith, in her hand, and the Islamic crescent is depicted at her feet. Her headdress also evokes the crown of the ancient Egyptian goddess Hathor.

However, the crown also symbolizes the three phases of the moon, highlighting the connection to femininity, intuition, and the cyclical nature of life. The moon at her feet also symbolizes her control over emotions and her ability to mediate between different levels of consciousness. The book she holds in her hands represents the hidden and secret knowledge that she possesses and protects. The partially concealed scroll indicates that there are still mysteries that have not been revealed.

Interestingly, the concealed letter could be a "T," which would ultimately result in "TORAT." In fact, TORA is sometimes written as TORAT in Hebrew spelling. In the Hebrew language, many feminine nouns end in "-at," but in German and English, this ending is often omitted, so we write the word as "TORA." If one reverses TORAT, it becomes TAROT. Truly mysterious when considering its association with hidden and secret knowledge.

Her dress is blue, symbolizing wisdom, spirituality, and the unknown. The flowing gown extends across the card, conveying a sense of movement and flow, suggesting her connection to the collective unconscious and the spiritual realm.

The background of the card depicts an abundance of plants and fruits, symbolizing fertility and growth. They represent the creative power of nature and the High Priestess's ability to foster new life and knowledge. The pomegranate pattern on the curtain behind her is another symbol of fertility and femininity, alluding to her connection to Mother Earth and divine femininity.

The number 2 of the High Priestess symbolizes duality and the union of opposites. It represents the connection between the conscious and the unconscious, between knowledge and intuition.

Summary:

As the second card in the Tarot deck, the High Priestess embodies intuition, wisdom, secrets, and spirituality. She is the archetype that symbolizes the feminine side of the unconscious and acts as a mediator between the visible and invisible worlds. In her essence, she is a source of knowledge, silence, and inner reflection. This card encourages us to listen to and trust our own inner wisdom and intuitions. It reveals secrets that can be both positive and negative, symbolized by the duality of black and white. Seen as an archetype, this person perceives everything happening around them but often keeps it to themselves. Until the right time comes, information is deliberately withheld.
